Transforming a Classic Painting Into a Lego Build
Unlike traditional paintings, this version of Sunflowers doesn’t require any brushes or paint—just patience and creativity. Lego designers worked closely with the Van Gogh Museum to ensure an authentic interpretation of the 1889 painting. One of the biggest challenges, according to Lego designer Stijn Oom, was recreating the impasto effect, a painting technique where Van Gogh heavily layered paint for added depth. Through careful brick placement, the set captures this three-dimensional quality, bringing the artwork to life.
Release Date and Availability
The Lego Sunflowers set is available for preorder at $199.99, with an official launch date of March 1. Additionally, permanent displays of the set will be featured at the Lego store in Amsterdam and the Van Gogh Museum, offering fans a chance to see the masterpiece up close before purchasing.
